It is a pathological condition characterized by pain & or itching in or around anus due to inflammed rectal veins. They may bleed sometimes.When bleeding is absent, they are termed Dry Piles & when bleeding starts, they are known as Bleeding Piles.

Causes & Pathogenasis:
Modern Aspect : Persistent constipation increases pressure or congestion in the rectal veins . Gradually these vessels enlarge which produce irritation, pain or sometimes bleeding especially during daefication & sitting.
When these swollen blood vessels present above the dentate line of anal canal it is termed as internal piles. Usually this form of piles is painless & generally associated with rectal bleeding during daefication.
When these swollen blood vessels present below the dentate line of anal canal it is termed as External piles. This form of piles is generally painful along with itching.
Risk Factors : Poor tone of veins & muscles in the rectal region ,Sitting on hard surface/seats for prolonged periods, straining during daefication, family history of piles, pregnancy

People with low digestive fire when consume heavy, oily, spicy & hot potency food items, all the three doshas gets aggrevated which enters into the dhatus(twak,rakta,mamsa & meda) and pollute them.This results in swelling of gudawalis(rectal blood vessels). Symptoms depends on the predominance of dosha involved.
Sign & symptoms :
- Burning ,stabbing or throbbing type of pain in anal region in case of external type of hemorrhoids.
- Painless Bleeding from anus during or just after defecation.
- Pinkish or bluish colour protrusion from anus like bunch of grapes.
- Feeling discomfort in anal region specially during sitting.
- Itching may present around anus.
- Sometimes mucus discharge .
